A man moves away, stops, turns around to see the distance he has covered, and realizes there are no footprints in the snow. Where is he? Where is he coming from? Where is he going? What is happening? Suddenly, he realizes that he is at a decisive point in his life, in the middle of a snowstorm, somewhere in a field. No matter where he comes from, he can choose to go wherever he wants. Everything is to be done, to be imagined, to be dreamed. His presence in the snow, without a past, without an established future, is the result of a silent transformation. The man walked without thinking, without thinking anymore, and then he found himself here. Nowhere and everywhere.
This man, this person, is each of us at some point in our lives… As in a well-ordered symphony, nothing stood out, nothing was distinguished, and this transformation, so important, remained invisible. Yet it did take place. Another year has passed.
Was 2012 not to your liking? Erase the tracks in the snow and start 2013 by heading toward a more exciting destination. Live instead of merely existing. The beginning of a new year is an opportunity for a fresh start, when nothing is set in stone and everything is still possible.
The new year, just like the first time, must be seen as a possibility without memories. Let go of the past that has held you back or still holds you back, emancipate yourself, and live your dreams instead of living those of others.
Live.
The first month of the year can become the place of the first time by offering the pivot for interpreting the work of your life. If it is sometimes too late for a last time, it is never too late for a first time.
By continuing to move forward through the storm, the past disappears beneath the snow; only the present is visible, while the future, composed of uncertainty, is to be created, is to be thought. The present allows you to make choices now so that you can live differently in the future.
In the snow, without a trace, in the present moment, nothing matters anymore; everything is yet to be done. You are faced with a choice: to retreat or to move forward? The status quo does not exist. “If you are not busy being born, you are busy dying,” Bob Dylan used to say. So, do you retreat toward an undeniable certainty, or do you move forward into the vaguest uncertainty? Oscar Wilde was right when he asserted that “it is uncertainty that charms us, and everything becomes more beautiful in the mist.” One must appreciate uncertainty because, without realizing it, certainty is a prison we have locked ourselves in.
So, rather than remaining in this certainty, in this prison, why not start something instead of heading toward a certain end?
Play the first move again. Redo your beginnings. Relearn the first lessons. Draw a new horizon. Let yourself be surprised.
Stop existing.
Show yourself.
Happy New Year 2013!
