work evolution

Hello magician;
My son is currently working in a small company (in a manufacturing workshop).
He would like to develop his role and produce the plans for the rooms and timber frames he manufactures. A draughtsman position was created and filled, but apparently the person is not meeting the management's expectations, so I think the contract will not be renewed.
Will he be able to apply for this position and get it?

It's a shame; I had hoped the situation would evolve more quickly in his favor (at least for financial reasons, in my case), especially given that it's something he cares deeply about (I can tell he's eager to commit to this goal).
