Coffee-ground reading
Also coffee cup reading · Turkish coffee reading
Coffee-ground reading is divination by the grounds left in a coffee cup, a particular form of tasseography. It is mostly associated with Turkish and Middle Eastern coffee, brewed unfiltered, whose thick sediment traces sharp shapes; reading the cup is part of Turkish coffee culture, recognized by UNESCO in 2013. It spread to Greece, the Middle East, the Balkans and Europe. Often done among family or friends, it blends conviviality, observation and imagination.
