The Magician

The Magician is Major Arcanum I of the tarot, called Le Bateleur (The Juggler) in the Tarot de Marseille. It shows a young man standing behind a table covered with objects, a wand in his hand, his hat often drawn in the shape of a lemniscate. Upright, it symbolizes beginnings, initiative, skill and the resources available for action. Reversed, it is readily read as scattered energy, lack of confidence, manipulation or a project that struggles to get off the ground. It opens the sequence of trumps.
