Reading question

Also framing the question · open question · closed question

The reading question is the request the querent puts to the practitioner, and how it is phrased shapes the reading. Practitioners distinguish the closed question, which calls for a yes or no, from the open question, which explores a situation and leaves room for reflection. A question centered on oneself and one's own choices lends itself better to insight than a question about someone else's will or a precise date. Asking the same question over and over is often a sign of rumination.
