The Emerald Tablet is a short text attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, regarded as a foundation of alchemy and Hermeticism. Its oldest known versions are in Arabic, followed by a Latin translation in the twelfth century. In a few enigmatic sentences, it sets out the principle of a correspondence between above and below, the celestial and earthly worlds, and the unity of all things. Legend holds that it was engraved on an emerald.
