Clairalience

Also clairscent · clairgustance

Clairalience is the claimed ability to perceive smells that have no physical source, which some mediums associate with the presence of someone who has died (a perfume, tobacco, a familiar scent). Clairgustance, which concerns tastes, is closely related. These terms, less common than clairvoyance or clairaudience, round out the series of so-called “clair” abilities. A persistent, unexplained perception of odors can have a medical cause and, in that case, warrants the advice of a health professional.
