Younger Futhark
The Younger Futhark is the runic alphabet used in Scandinavia during the Viking Age, from around the eighth century. It reduces the Elder Futhark to sixteen runes, so that a single rune stands for several sounds. It is the script of most Swedish and Danish runestones. It is less used in divination than the Elder Futhark, but some practitioners seeking fidelity to the Viking world turn to it. There is also an Anglo-Saxon futhorc, expanded with additional runes.
