The Devil

The Devil is Major Arcanum XV of the tarot. A horned, winged creature stands on a pedestal to which two small devils are tied by the neck, though with a loose rope. Upright, it symbolizes passions, desire, attachment and temptation, but also creative power and raw energy. Reversed, it is read as release from a hold or, according to other readers, a worsening dependency. It does not stand for a supernatural evil: it is read as an inner force.
