Pythagoras

Also Pythagoras of Samos

Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher and mathematician of the 6th century BCE, whose school held number to be the principle of all things. Western numerology often claims him as its source, to the point that its common method is called “Pythagorean.” The attribution is largely symbolic: the Pythagoreans did ascribe qualities to numbers, notably through the tetractys, but the table that converts Latin letters into digits is a modern construction with no direct link to him.
