Fortune-telling solitaire
Also divinatory patience · patience · réussite
Fortune-telling solitaire is a one-player card game laid out with an intention, in which success or failure is taken as the answer to a question. Very popular in the nineteenth century, the practice belongs as much to entertainment as to cartomancy: popular tradition readily linked it to the name of Mlle Lenormand or of Empress Joséphine. Today it is mostly a matter of play and folklore, and should not be confused with the interpretive spreads of cartomancy.
