Egyptian tarot
Also Egyptian-style tarot · Egyptian tarot decks
Egyptian tarot refers to decks whose imagery is inspired by ancient Egypt, which appeared in the wake of Court de Gébelin’s theory of the Book of Thoth and developed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, notably from the descriptions of Paul Christian. They keep the structure of the classic tarot, set against a backdrop of pyramids, deities and hieroglyphs. Their aesthetic does not reflect any real Egyptian origin of the tarot, which history refutes.
