Palmistry

Also chiromancy · palm reading · palmist

Palmistry is the art of reading character and life tendencies in the lines, mounts and shape of the hand. Practiced in antiquity in India, China and Greece, it enjoyed great popularity in Europe during the Renaissance and again in the nineteenth century. Palmists generally examine both hands, one associated with predispositions, the other with what a person has made of them. The lines change over the course of a life, which, according to practitioners themselves, rules out any fatalistic reading. No line allows any health diagnosis.
