Cleromancy
Also sortilege · divination by lot
Cleromancy is divination by casting or drawing lots, from the Greek klēros, “lot” or “share.” It involves throwing or drawing at random pebbles, beans, sticks, knucklebones, dice or shells, then interpreting the result. It is one of the most widespread forms of divination in the world. Runes, knucklebones, divination dice and cowrie casting all follow this principle. In antiquity, drawing lots was also a way of settling between choices by leaving the decision to the gods.
