Hex
Also curse · spell · bewitchment · jinx
A hex is a magical operation meant to act on a person from a distance in order to subdue, charm or harm them. The French word for it, envoûtement, comes from the Latin vultus, “face,” through the practice of making figurines in the victim’s likeness. Believing oneself hexed can cause very real distress. A hex “diagnosed” by a psychic and followed by a paid offer to lift it is the typical scenario of a scam.
