Evil eye
Also nazar · jettatura · malocchio
The evil eye is the belief, widespread around the Mediterranean and in the Middle East, that a gaze charged with envy or jealousy can bring misfortune. People traditionally protect themselves with amulets such as the blue eye, or nazar, the Hand of Fatima, or hamsa, or the Neapolitan horn. As with hexes, a “diagnosis” of the evil eye followed by a paid offer to remove it should raise a red flag.
