Talisman

Also talismans · pentacle

A talisman is an object, often engraved with signs, letters or astrological figures, believed to draw a favorable influence to the one who carries it: luck, love, success, wisdom. The word comes from Arabic, itself derived from the Greek telesma, “consecrated object.” Renaissance magic did much to codify planetary talismans. It is distinguished from the amulet, which protects rather than attracts.
