Temurah

Also temura · letter permutation

Temurah is a Kabbalistic technique that permutes or substitutes the letters of a word according to fixed rules in order to bring out another meaningful word. The best-known method, atbash, replaces the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet with the last, the second with the second-to-last, and so on. Together with gematria and notarikon, it forms the trio of classic methods of exegesis through letters.
