Mantra
Also mantras · japa
A mantra is a sacred syllable, word or formula repeated aloud or silently, originating in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The Sanskrit word suggests an “instrument of thought.” Its repetition, sometimes counted on a string of beads called a mala, serves to focus the mind and support meditation. In the West, the word also refers more broadly to a phrase repeated to oneself to build courage.
