Nicolas Conver

Nicolas Conver was a master card maker from Marseille who in 1760 engraved a tarot deck that became the most influential model of the Tarot de Marseille. His woodblocks, reissued by his successors, served as the basis for Paul Marteau’s 1930 Grimaud edition and then for many modern versions, including the Jodorowsky-Camoin restoration. Much of the imagery now associated with the Tarot de Marseille, colors included, comes from this lineage.
