Significator

The significator is a card chosen before the reading to represent the querent, then placed at the center or at the head of the layout. It is traditionally selected according to age, gender, temperament or astrological sign, often from among the court cards. This practice, common among English-language authors of the early 20th century, is optional today: many readers let the draw itself designate the card that speaks of the person.
